Chapter 7 - The Bloodline Ledger

Julian stepped back, allowing Maya Lin to enter the warm, oak-floored foyer. He closed the heavy door behind her, locking the deadbolts into place.
Maya unbuttoned her damp navy trench coat, revealing a simple black turtleneck sweater and tailored trousers. She set the silver leather notebook onto the walnut console table—the very table where Victoria had pushed the Ming vase to its destruction hours earlier.
"Where is Noah?" Maya asked, scanning the high ceilings and open doorways.
"Upstairs. Asleep," Julian said, placing his pistol on the table beside the notebook. "He's safe."
"He won't be safe for long," Maya said flatly. She untied the black ribbon around the silver ledger, opening it to a page filled with dense, handwritten columns of numbers, account codes, and structural diagrams of the Vance mansion. "Victoria was never meant to be your wife for life, Julian. She was a placeholder. Arthur Sterling’s company built the security infrastructure for this house five years ago. Did you really think that ceiling camera was the only device he installed?"
Julian’s eyes narrowed. "I personally inspected the wiring when I rewired the network."
"You inspected the network he wanted you to inspect," Maya said, turning the silver notebook around so Julian could see the diagram on the page.
It was a blueprinted schematic of the Vance estate's foundation—specifically the sub-basement beneath the subterranean wine cellar.
Marked in red ink on the blueprint were four precise locations along the load-bearing concrete pillars supporting the central structure of the house. Beside each red mark was a single code word: SEMTEX.
Julian felt the room tilt slightly beneath his feet. "Demolition charges?"
"Built into the foundation concrete during the construction phase four years ago," Maya confirmed, her voice devoid of panic, presenting the facts like an auditor reviewing a balance sheet. "Arthur Sterling doesn't just steal assets; he liquidates evidence. Once the data transfer reached 100%, a signal was scheduled to detonate the sub-basement, making the house collapse into its own footprint. It would have been ruled a catastrophic gas main explosion, killing you, Noah, and Elena, leaving Victoria—the grieving widow—as the sole legal beneficiary of your remaining global insurance policies."
Julian dropped his head into his hands for a brief second, the sheer weight of the horror pressing down on his chest. His late wife Eleanor... his innocent son locked in a dark wardrobe... the young nanny framed for assault... all of it was part of an industrial execution machine designed to erase his entire bloodline for money.
"The transfer stopped at 89%," Julian said, lifting his head, his eyes burning with a sudden, icy fire. "I smashed the master server controller."
"Which means the automated detonation timer didn't receive the completion signal," Maya said. "But it also means Arthur knows something went wrong. He will be sending his physical recovery team here to manually override the system."
"How long do we have?" Julian asked.

Maya pulled a sleek tactical watch from her pocket, glancing at the digital interface.
"They breached the perimeter gate three minutes ago," she said softly.
