Chapter 15 - The New Dynasty

By late afternoon, the fog over Saint-Martin House had cleared completely, revealing a bright, azure sky and a blazing golden sun that washed over the manicured gardens.
The police had come and gone. The estate’s team of elite lawyers and public relations managers had handled every detail with quiet, surgical efficiency. The official story was clean: an attempted burglary by a disgraced former employee, resulting in a tragic altercation between criminals. The Saint-Martin reputation remained spotless, unbroken, and more formidable than ever.
In the kitchen, a team of specialized cleaners had replaced the damaged floorboards, scrubbed the white cabinets, and polished the marble countertops until not a single trace of blood or gunsmoke remained.
Nora sat at the head of the wooden dining table. She was wearing a fresh lilac cardigan, her gray hair immaculate, a fresh glass of orange juice resting beside her plate.
Opposite her sat Chloe.
Chloe was dressed in a sleek, tailored dark suit. Her posture was no longer hesitant or timid. She sat straight, her chin raised, holding a teacup with steady, calm fingers. The trauma of the morning had burned away the weak, uncertain girl she had once been, leaving behind the true heiress of the Saint-Martin line.
The rear door opened softly, and a young woman in a crisp white shirt and a red apron stepped into the kitchen, holding a tray of warm pastries.
"Is there anything else you require, Mrs. Saint-Martin?" the new housekeeper asked respectfully.

Nora looked at the new girl, then turned her eyes toward Chloe. A faint, knowing smile passed between mother and daughter—a silent acknowledgment of the iron rule that governed their world.
"No, thank you," Chloe answered for her mother, her voice carrying the exact cold, razor-sharp authority that had once belonged to Nora alone. "Everything is exactly in its place."
