Chapter 9 - The Decryption Sequence

A heavy silence descended over the line.

Inside the black sedan in the parking lot, Michael stared at the tablet screen. His fingers hovered over the glass interface. He was an analytical man—a man who calculated risk in terms of percentages and legal indemnities. Arthur was broken, cornered, and out of options. The police were focused entirely on the physical evidence in the room.

"Very well," Michael said quietly.

He tapped a sequence of three numbers into the tablet screen, authorizing a remote Bluetooth handshake with the medical monitor inside Room 412.

On the wall above Lily’s head, the main cardiac monitor beeped sharply as its interface shifted from blue to a bright, neon green. A string of hexadecimal code began scrolling rapidly across the digital screen, terminating in a clear, plain-text instruction set:

ANTIDOTE REVERSAL AGENT: ATROPINE SULFATE 0.5MG. DISCONNECT VALVE SECURELY.

The investigator gasped, immediately stepping forward with a pair of sterile surgical clamps. With surgical precision, she pinched the primary IV line directly above the micro-injector, isolating the amber fluid, and sliced the secondary tube with a small pair of medical shears.

The clear liquid resumed dripping safely into Lily's arm, pure, uncontaminated, and clean.

"It's clear!" the investigator called out, looking at Arthur. "The line is secure! Get the medical team in here now!"

On the phone line, Michael’s soft laugh returned. "A bargain is a bargain, Arthur. I'll be waiting in the lobby with my legal team to accept your confession."

Arthur lowered the phone from his ear. He looked down at Lily one last time, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.

"I love you, kiddo," he whispered.

"I love you, Dad," Lily replied, her voice soft but strong.

Arthur turned and walked out of Room 412, stepping out into the cold, blue-gray corridor.
