Chapter 15 - The Unblinking Eye

They walked down the hallway together, their footsteps quiet against the soft Persian rug.

As they reached the corner where the security camera was mounted, both men stopped for a brief moment, looking up at the small, black dome nestled in the crown molding.

The camera was still there, silent and vigilant, its tiny lens reflecting the natural sunlight pouring through the windows. The red LED light was no longer blinking violently in the dark; it glowed a steady, reassuring green, indicating a normal, secure system status.

"You know," Lucas said, looking up at the lens, "I used to hate the idea of cameras in the house. I thought it meant you didn't trust anyone."

"A camera doesn't create trust, Lucas," Marcus said gently, turning to look at his son. "And it doesn't create lies. It only captures what is already there. It forces us to look at reality, even when reality is painful."

Lucas nodded slowly, placing a hand on his father's shoulder. "I'm glad it was watching."

"So am I," Marcus agreed. "Because without it, we might have lost each other forever."

They turned away from the camera, walking together down the sweeping spiral staircase toward the grand foyer below. The front doors were open to the summer breeze, bringing in the sweet, fresh scent of blooming jasmine from the garden outside, filling the once-cold marble halls with warmth, light, and a peace that no shadow could ever touch again.

Above them, in the quiet corner of the ceiling, the optical lens held its silent, unblinking guard—a permanent sentinel standing watch over the truth.
