Chapter 12 - The Golden Medallion

Lily reached into the tiny, wet pocket of her blue sleeveless dress. Her tiny fingers worked slowly, pulling out a heavy, metallic object that caught the bright summer sunlight in a sudden, blinding flash.
She opened her small palm. Resting in the center of her hand was a thick, ancient gold medallion, attached to a heavy silver chain. The surface of the gold was intricately engraved with the crest of Arthur’s family bank—the physical master-key required to access the off-shore family vaults in Zurich, an item worth vastly more than the estate itself.
The gold medallion gleamed, casting a shimmering reflection across the wet concrete. Elena’s eyes locked onto the object. Her breath caught in her throat, a choked, audible gasp escaping her lips as her entire plan unravelled in the open air.
