Chapter 9 - The Playback

The screen displayed a clean playback interface. Arthur scrolled back through the recorded timeline, setting the search parameter to ninety minutes prior—just before he had walked out to the patio for his afternoon glass of water.
The digital feed buffered briefly before displaying the sharp, high-definition interior of his private study. The room was bathed in quiet morning light, the heavy oak desk standing center stage.
Arthur’s thumb hovered over the screen as the video began to play. The silence around the pool seemed to stretch thin, taut as a piano wire. Elena stopped her advance, her eyes fixing onto the glowing screen in Arthur’s palm. The color began to drain from her face as she recognized the background of the recording. The digital eye had seen everything she had done while the house was quiet.
