Chapter 6 - The Seed of Doubt

Six months ago, Elena had entered Arthur's life following the sudden, tragic death of his wife. She arrived as an estate manager, bringing order back to a household drowning in grief. She was efficient, strikingly elegant, and possessed an uncanny ability to anticipate Arthur’s needs. Yet, as the weeks rolled on, small things began to shift out of alignment.

Financial ledgers showed slight anomalies. Confidential physical files in his home office seemed subtly misplaced, shifted by fractions of an inch on his desk. Most disturbing of all was the quiet psychological wedge being driven between him and Lily. Small misunderstandings were manufactured, strange incidents occurred, and Lily grew increasingly withdrawn whenever Elena entered a room.

Arthur had tried to rationalize these details, attributing them to his own grief-induced paranoia. But looking now at his weeping daughter, the fog lifted instantly. Elena hadn't just been managing his estate; she had been systematically hunting through it, searching for something vital. And today, she had tried to eliminate the ultimate distraction.
