Chapter 5 - The Aftermath of the Splash

Elena sat frozen in the lounge chair, her cream dress rumpled, her pristine composure shattered into jagged pieces. Water from Arthur's hand had left a dark, widening stain across the front of her expensive silk outfit. She clutched the arms of the chair, staring up at him with a mix of genuine fear and suppressed malice.

Arthur stood over her, breathing heavily, his fists balled at his sides, knuckles white. The quiet luxury of the villa had dissolved into a crime scene. Down by the pool deck, Lily’s quiet weeping was the only sound left, competing with the low hum of the filtration system returning the troubled water back to a smooth, glass-like surface.

Arthur turned his back on Elena, refusing to give her another second to construct another lie. He walked back to his daughter, kneeling in the pool of water gathering on the concrete. As he wrapped his arms around the shivering girl, his mind began to race backwards through the months preceding this moment. The plunge wasn't an isolated accident. It was an escalation—a desperate move in a high-stakes game that Elena had been playing inside his house.
