Chapter 4 - The Shove

"She slipped!" Elena instantly protested, stepping backward, her manicured hands fluttering in front of her cream dress in a gesture of defensive innocence. Her voice hit a carefully practiced note of frantic concern. "Arthur, I swear to God, she lost her footing on the wet concrete! She just slipped!"

The denial was smooth, but Arthur caught the micro-expression flickering beneath her eyes—the sudden tightening of her jaw, the calculated assessment of whether her lie would hold. Months of silent doubt, subtle irregularities in his household, and an oppressive paranoia exploded into an unbridled, feral fury.

Arthur stood up from the wet concrete, dripping water, his wet white shirt sticking to his frame. He loomed over her, his shadow blocking out the harsh midday light. He closed the distance between them in two massive, predatory strides. Before Elena could react or retreat further, Arthur’s wet hand shot forward, gripping the fabric near her shoulder, and violently shoved her backward.

Elena gasped sharply as she lost her balance, tumbling hard into the cushioned depths of a heavy outdoor wicker lounge chair. "You pushed my daughter?" Arthur roared, his face contorted in absolute rage, his voice echoing off the surrounding brick walls. "Never touch my daughter again!"
