Chapter 7 - The Cream Dress

Elena slowly adjusted herself in the wicker chair, pushing herself up with deliberate, measured movements. She smoothed down the front of her damp cream dress, trying to reclaim her posture of aristocratic detachment. The victim card had failed; Arthur’s instinct as a father had completely bypassed her calculated narrative.

She watched him closely as he comforted the child. Her dark eyes narrowed slightly, shedding the helpless act. The asymmetrical dress, designed to convey softness and high-fashion vulnerability, now felt like a liability against the harsh reality of her exposed motives.

She realized the balance of power had shifted violently. Arthur was no longer the grieving, easily manipulated widower she had spent months conditioning. He was a threat—a man driven by protective rage, possessing both the financial power and the intelligence to utterly destroy her if he confirmed what she had been doing behind his back. She needed to gain control of the narrative before he took his next step.
