Chapter 11 - The Legacy of Roses

Evelyn gave the swing a soft, gentle push.

Lily soared into the warm, sunlit air of the conservatory, her sweet, ringing laughter filling the high glass dome, echoing off the climbing roses and the bright green leaves.

There were no shadows here anymore. No cold red dresses, no spiteful sneers, no poisonous whispers in the dark. The sanctuary that Clara had built with so much love had finally been reclaimed, cleansed of the malice that had sought to destroy it.

Evelyn watched her granddaughter swing back and forth, the gentle motion stirring the sweet fragrance of blooming jasmine into the humid morning air.

She reached out and lightly touched the cedar rope of the swing, feeling the rough, solid texture of the wood beneath her fingers—the same wood her daughter Clara had carved with her own hands.

"She has your smile, Clara," Evelyn whispered quietly toward the sunlit dome above, a tear glistening in the corner of her gray eyes before she wiped it away with a proud, firm hand.

"Grandma, higher!" Lily cheered, kicking her little feet toward the sunlight.

"Higher it is, my darling," Evelyn laughed softly, giving the swing another gentle, steady push that sent the child soaring safely toward the light.

Outside the glass house, the sea breeze swept across the coastal cliffs, blowing away the last lingering clouds of the past, leaving only the bright, unbroken promise of the future.
