Chapter 14 - The Final Settlement

The federal marshals moved swiftly, stepping onto the stage and forcing Julian's hands behind his back. The sharp clack of handcuffs locking around his wrists echoed through the open microphones, broadcast live to millions of television viewers across the nation.
As they led Julian down the stage steps, past the blinding flashes of shouting photographers, he stopped briefly in front of Claire.
His hair was disheveled, his tie crooked, his eyes bloodshot and filled with an insane, desperate fury.
"You think you've won?" Julian hissed, his voice a ragged whisper into her ear. "You think you can run an empire, Claire? You are nothing without me! You're just a girl who wiped floors!"
Claire looked at him, her expression entirely serene. She raised a hand, gently reaching out to adjust his crooked tie, leaning close to whisper back:
"I wiped floors so I could learn where the foundations were weak, Julian. And today... I pulled the floor right out from under you."
She stepped back. The marshals shoved Julian forward, leading him out through the side doors toward a waiting federal convoy.
Within two hours, the estate was cleared of reporters and security guards. Mrs. Gable was escorted off the property in handcuffs, charged as an accessory to kidnapping and evidence tampering.
Claire walked through the quiet, empty halls of Sterling Manor alone. The towering oak doors, the crystal chandeliers, the oil portraits—none of it held terror for her anymore. The ghost of Evelyn Vance had been laid to rest, and the house of cards built on lies had finally collapsed.
She walked into the master study, sat down behind the massive mahogany desk that had belonged to the men who tried to destroy her family, and opened the leather folder containing the restructuring documents prepared by Margaret Chen.
She signed her true name at the bottom of the deed in clean, sweeping black ink:
Claire Vance.
